When trying to find a good Asian restaurant in suburbia it is really hard to determine from the outside of a building if the food served will be authentic, or even good. Hunan Garden, located just east of downtown Bellevue (yes, Bellevue really does have a downtown) is in a nondescript strip shopping area, and they obviously did not go to a lot of expense on the outside of the building.
While the building gives the impression that it is "safe for the American suburban taste," the food served is better than the average suburban Chinese restaurant. My sampling was of a lunch special that I thought was very good. I remember thinking I would like to return to sample some other items, but I never did.
While this is not ID (International District) dining, it does have some pretty flavorful food.
